Singer starts on a career comeback

Lyn Christopher wants to take you with her on a musical journey - one that started in the days when she was backed on her first, self-titled album by a couple of session musicians named Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. You might say she gave them the kiss of success. Google her and you'll find that the 1973 album is a KISS collectible that isn't available anymore. (She has reissued that album on a signed CD, however.) Now she's performing with the Jimi Natale Band - and her next area gig is Friday at the Turning Point in Piermont. "It's an honor to still be recognized as a force in KISS'early career. Now I believe it is time for my own recognition," Christopher says in an e-mail. "I'll be singing 'Take Me With You', which seems to have incredible legs, and perhaps a couple of other songs from my first album." "To me, Lyn is a legend," Natale says. You don't work with the people she has on her albums, and you don't invite Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons on your album, even though they weren't known then." Natale didn't know Christopher until they met at Applebee's in Suffern in 2002 and he was looking for a female singer. "She brought her resume to me and I never gave it a second thought, because when I heard her sing, I knew she had an aura about her," he says by e-mail. "We are talking about a Paramount Recording Artist, and a lady who sang long before the Britneys and Mariahs.'Canta Libre' is a beautiful song, and it took some serious thinking to draw a parallel for her inspiration." The audience can expect blues, country, Latin, rock, jazz and pop tunes. "Jimi and I have collaborated over the last year on the third collection of original songs to present as my return to the music world," she says. Her return is due to her taking time off to battle breast cancer, so her current career means much more to her. "It's 14 years since my breast cancer and I have had numerous operations after that, but I am a survivor," she says. The survivor continues to sing, working on "Magic" and "Illusion,"songs that are going to be included in her next album. "I am in the process of recording a third album ("The Magic is Back")at Real Recording in Manhattan with Questar Welch producing,"Christopher says."All I can say is that all the young people out there, eat properly, take care of your body and mind and you can achieve anything you want to do in life. Just keep focused and never give up." And keep track of the musicians Christopher sings with. She knows how to pick winners
